Lisa F. Rosenberg, M.D.

Dr. Rosenberg's love for ophthalmology is virtually hereditary since both her father and brother are eye surgeons. Her curiosity about how living systems work began as a child. "I used to 'operate' on my pet goldfish using my father's retired surgical instruments!"

After receiving her BA from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Rosenberg attended medical school at Rush Medical College. She moved to St. Louis where she completed her residency at Washington University, and then returned to Chicago for subspecialty training in glaucoma at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. Dr. Rosenberg joined the full-time faculty at Northwestern where she achieved the rank of Clinical Associate Professor. Her research interests include investigations of novel medical, laser and surgical treatments for glaucoma. She is nationally renowned as a surgical textbook author, a contributor of over 35 publications and book chapters, and a popular lecturer.

Jon M. Ruderman, M.D.

Following graduation from Yale University, Dr. Ruderman attended medical school at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. He interned at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in general medicine followed by Ophthalmology training at the University of California and University of Illinois. This, in turn, led to glaucoma fellowship training at Emory University in Atlanta.

Dr. Ruderman has been an active member of the Northwestern University academic community for more than 30 years. He is an Associate Professor and has participated in the medical education and training of medical students, residents, fellows and colleagues. He currently is Director of the Glaucoma Fellowship for Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine. He received an award for outstanding research at the University of Illinois as well as a Heed Fellowship. Dr. Ruderman has participated in community outreach and screening programs which provide care to the needy in the Chicago area. He also served as an active physician volunteer and medical advisor to Global Brigades, an NGO which provides care to poor communities in Ghana and Honduras. Dr. Ruderman has authored over 40 research articles and book chapters, and has lectured throughout the United States. Dr. Ruderman served as President of both the Chicago Ophthalmologic Society and of the Chicago Glaucoma Society. He was chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee for Ophthalmologic Surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and is currently on the Boards of the Chicago Ophthalmological Society and the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness.

John Yang, M.D.

At a very young age, Dr. Yang knew he wanted to become a physician. In fact, he entered the 7 year Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University straight out of high school. He completed his internship at the University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics and then completed his residency training in ophthalmology at the Feinberg School of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Yang completed his specialty fellowship training in glaucoma at University Eye Specialists in 2001. Currently, he holds the position of Clinical Instructor at Northwestern where he enjoys teaching residents surgery and glaucoma specialty care. Dr. Yang is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and maintains membership in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, the Chicago Ophthalmological Society, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

A long time Chicago area resident, Dr. Yang volunteers for Habitat for Humanity and enjoys playing golf. When not at the office, Dr. Yang continues to be around ophthalmology as three of his family members are also ophthalmologists.

Shawn Gulati, M.D., M.P.H.

After Dr. Gulati completed college at the University of Michigan, he attended medical school at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Michigan. He then spent a year at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health for intensive study in epidemiology and biostatistics and conducting research with glaucoma experts in Baltimore.

After ophthalmology residency at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, Dr. Gulati pursued two subspecialty fellowships. The first was in glaucoma at the Moran Eye Center in Utah. Next, he completed a Global Ophthalmology Fellowship, teaching and performing surgery in Tanzania, India, Micronesia, and Guatemala. Dr. Gulati is passionate about global outreach and enjoys teaching surgery around the world.

Dr. Gulati joined the faculty at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University asClinical Assistant Professor. He is also adjunct Assistant Professor at the Moran Eye Center, University of Utah.

Dr. Gulati has expertise in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma, and microinvasive glaucoma surgery. He performs cataract surgery and is masterful in performing complex anterior segment surgery.

When he’s not working, Dr. Gulati enjoys hiking, skiing, scuba diving, traveling, and cheering for his Detroit/Michigan sports teams.

Gina Piper, O.D.

Dr. Gina Piper is a primary eye care and contact lens fitting specialist who is board certified in Optometry. She is an experienced clinician who offers both adult and pediatric patients expert refractions and customized contact lens consultations. Dr. Piper graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry with honors in 1996, and she completed her advanced care rotations at the Illinois Masonic Hospital in Chicago, and at the Sidney Hillman Center in Chicago. Dr. Piper’s undergraduate studies were at the University of Illinois, Chicago campus, where she was a Biology Major. Dr. Piper is an active member of the Illinois Optometric Association and a Chicago native. When she is not working, she can usually be found at the local Little League baseball field cheering on her three sons.
